Celebrate Black Excellence This Juneteenth

The historical significance and impact of Juneteenth goes far beyond Galveston, Texas in 1865. While it marked the end of slavery, it also signified the beginning of a centuries-long fight for civil rights, racial equality, and social justice. For generations, people of African descent have celebrated Juneteenth but this year will be different as a federal holiday. As we look towards the future, may we never forget our past and always find the courage to stand against racism. We must continue to persist and stay strong in the movement that our ancestors - the abolitionists, activists, freedom riders - began so long ago.
